Halloween 2010

Since Halloween fell on a Sunday this year, trick-or-treating took place on Saturday instead.  The day before, the kids were out of school, so we spent the day carving pumpkins, and making special treats.  We made eyeball cupcakes...

and literally spent half the day carving three pumpkins...

Vanessa did the one on the far right all by herself.  She even gave it a mustache. (She LOVES mustaches!)

The next day, Halloween almost didn't happen.  We had some crazy weather that hit right as the kids were about to go out trick-or-treating.  It started to downpour, then it started to hail, then there was a rainbow (not exactly spooky), but it was pretty anyway.  When it finally stopped, it was really cold and very wet.  But, the kids didn't care.  They all had fun anyway.

If you look closely, you can see hail lining the driveway.
This was Ben's first year to really go trick-or-treating.  He was a puppy.

and Vanessa was a devil.  My mom made her costume and she LOVED it!

Family Pictures 2010

If you haven't noticed,... we just recently had our family pictures taken.  We haven't had any taken in several years, and that was before we had Ben.  The entire process was extremely tiring, and even a little bit painful.  Surprisingly, Evan actually wasn't that bad,... Ben on the other hand was a little terror!  He was so difficult, we really only got one picture of him smiling.  Overall, I love LOVE the individual pictures of the kids.  We could not get one of all three of them together.  It just wasn't going to happen.  I have to say I am a little disappointed in our family pictures,... but I am pretty picky and considering how terrible Ben was, I should just be satisfied that any turned out at all.

So here are just a few of the finished products...

This is the only picture we got of Ben smiling.

I guess in the end, it was all worth it!

Flashback Friday

I am going to give this "Flashback Friday" thing a try.  I have seen other people do this on their blogs, and have decided to give it a try myself.  I have so many fond memories,... so why not share a few?

Since it's October, I thought I would spend this month sharing some of my favorite Halloween/Fall memories.  Really, I have WAY too many.  Fall is by far my favorite time of year, but for today I think I will share some pictures from our Halloween in Arizona in 2005.  Definitely not the first place I think of when it comes to beautiful fall foliage, and crisp fall air, (it was in the 90's on Halloween night), but our first and only Halloween in Arizona has a special place in my heart.  I think because pretty much anything that took place during our brief stay in AZ has a special place in my heart.  I will have to share more about our time there later,... but for now here are a few pictures I had to scan, since I didn't have a digital camera back then.
You can't tell, but Evan was a Utah JAZZ player (Kirilenko), and obviously Vanessa was a ladybug.
Always there to lead Evan by the hand...

I can't believe it's been five years!  I love thinking about these precious moments!
Thank goodness for pictures to help keep these memories alive.

Too Many Ghost Shows

So, it's 3:30 in the morning, and I just can't sleep. I guess I need to lay off watching episodes from "Ghost Adventures", and "The Scariest Places in America", from the Travel channel. I am such a wimp. I can't help but watch those kinds of shows, especially during this time of year, but then I pay the price later, when I can't sleep.

While I've been up, wondering if there is a ghost in my room (I know, ridiculous, right?), naturally I would start thinking about how my blog has been so blah, lately. I am not trying to attract hundreds of followers or anything, but I figure it should at least be a little interesting for me to write. Much of what it comes down to, is time. I don't always have the time to update, so when I do, I try to update with stuff I think my family (mostly my mom), would like to read about. However, there is another part of me that really needs a place to put some of the other random stuff that is swimming through my ADD mind.

So, yeah, I am going to start changing things up a bit (nothing dramatic),... I am not sure how exactly, but changes are definitely coming...

Now, if I could just get some sleep. :)

A New Haircut

Vanessa, finally, told me a few weeks ago that she wanted her hair cut short. I have been trying for over a year to convince her that we would all be better off if her hair were shorter. If she had her way, she would never have to brush her hair, and she would be content to just let it hang in her face all day long. So, now the battle over hair in the morning is finally over (at least for now).

She went from this...

to this

and she really seems to loves it! I wish all of our battles could end this way! :)

Trip to Ohio

So, here are a few pictures from our trip to Ohio. It would take too long to explain all of them, and of course, there are a lot more. I will just say it was good to be home to spend time with family and visit some of my favorite places. Good times!

First Day of School

Well, the first day of school has come and gone,... two days ago. This summer has absolutely flown by, especially the last half of it. What's even better, we are still in the same place a year later. Vanessa gets to attend the same school, with many of her friends from last year, and new ones she has made over the summer. She was actually excited to start. In fact her words were, "I am bored with summer." She is starting the second grade.

Evan on the other hand is starting a new year at a new school. The class he was in last year was not quite the right fit for him, so we are starting him in a different class in a different school, but in the same school district. I hope things will be better. Unfortunately it just doesn't seem like the school district really has a place for him that would be ideal. The upside is that Evan just started an all inclusive autism therapy program that I take him to once a week (I wish I could do more, but it's just so dang expensive as all his therapy treatments are.) This program is supposed to help me with Evan at school, home, and in the community. So far, I have been very impressed with them, and the progress he is already making. I am confident things will be very different with Evan in a year from now (in a good way). So anyway,... here is Evan bright and early before his bus picked him up at 7 am! It was cold and windy, but at least he had a smile on his face.
Because he left so early, I didn't get a picture of Evan and Vanessa together. Oh well,...

So, I look forward to another crazy and busy school year. It should be lots of fun, and hopefully I will get to see a lot of progress with both kids.

Oh, and our trip to Ohio was great. We really did have a lot of fun. I will post a slide show of pictures soon.

Updates are coming soon!

Well, I know it's been a long time since my last post. I plan to update soon. I have been in Ohio visiting my family for the past two weeks, and still have one more week to go at this point. It's been almost 3 years since I have been back here. So far, we have had a great time and we have been super busy. So many places to visit, and just barely enough time. I will post pictures as soon as I get back to Utah.
